The Association of Resident Doctors employed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has voiced its dissatisfaction regarding the failure to implement its demands, even after receiving approval from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Dr. George Ebong, the President of ARD-FCTA, made this announcement during a press conference held on Monday in Abuja.
It is important to note that ARD-FCTA has been aligned with the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors since November 1, 2025.
The ongoing strike has disrupted operations in public hospitals across the country.
In his remarks to the media concerning the strike, Ebong stated that the government has yet to address its 13 demands, despite numerous discussions.
He expressed concern that the October salaries for FCTA doctors remain unpaid, criticizing the ongoing delays in salary disbursement.
He pointed out that hospitals in the capital are in poor condition, urging the minister to take immediate action.
Ebong called on the minister and the FCTA to fulfill all the doctors’ demands, which include the settlement of salary arrears, full payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), promotions, and other requests.
“We believed that with the Senate's intervention and the FCT minister's approval, our demands would be addressed. Unfortunately, none of our demands have been acted upon,” he remarked.
“As of today (Monday), November 3, 2025, we still have not received last month's salaries.”
“There has been no positive outcome despite our efforts to engage with the management. We find ourselves back in the same situation as before.”
“It has become a norm within the FCTA that salaries are not paid on time. We typically receive the previous month’s salary the following month, and when they are paid, the amounts are often incomplete.”
“We have competent doctors, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, and others, but the hospitals are lacking.”
“Regardless of how skilled the healthcare workers are, without properly functioning hospitals, we cannot perform effectively.”
“We believe the minister has the capacity to make a difference. We feel he may not be fully informed.”
“It is quite disappointing that while the minister approves our requests, certain individuals seem to obstruct the implementation, leaving us back at square one,” he concluded.
