South Korea’s footballers pull in as group winners in the second round of the Asian Cup. Ex-Leverkusen-Pro Heung Min Son makes the difference against China. Kyrgyzstan clearly defeats the Philippines.

The Koreans defeated China 2-0 (1-0) in the Group C top-flight and finished the preliminary round in the United Arab Emirates without losing points. In the second round , a first for the knockout therefore waits – Round qualified group of third parties to the South Koreans. The coached by coach Marcello Lippi Chinese have to compete on Sunday in the second round against Thailand. Both teams were qualified for the next round before the match. 

Goal scorers for the team of newly arrived top star Heung Min Son (Tottenham Hotspur) were Hwang Ui Jo with penalties (14) and Kim Min Jae (51). Son, who had played in the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, made in the initial phase with his speed the difference and was slowed down after a solo only by a foul of the Chinese Shi Ke. Hwang scored safely from the penalty spot and scored his second tournament goal.

The Chinese, who spared their best attacker Wu Lei and their creative brain Hao Junmin, tried to be dangerous and had a good chance through Jin Jingdao, but the Chinese narrowly missed the goal. Later, Hwang had the biggest chance of the first half, but he only hit the post.  

Kim Min Jae scored the second goal of the South Koreans only six minutes after the start of the restart and thus made the preliminary decision. As a result, especially Son continued to swirl, but had bad luck with his qualifications.

Lux hits three times for Kyrgyzstan 

The Kyrgyz maintained their hope for the next round with a 3-1 victory over the Philippines. Vitalij Lux from Ulm (24th, 51st, 77th) scored a hat-trick that earned his team the first three points in the tournament. Former Fürth football player Stephan Schröck scored the consolation goal for coach Sven-Göran Eriksson’s team shortly before the final whistle, losing all three games and having to travel home.

Goalless draw

In Group D, Iraq and Iran split 0-0 in Dubai. Both teams had previously reached the round of the top 16 teams. Iran goes into the round of 16 as a group winner.

In the second game of the group Vietnam could be 
happy with their 2-0 (1-0) win against Yemen over its first tournament points .
