The Glastonbury-born player quickly took a 2-0 lead against his opponent.
However, during the second set, fans were left “confused” after Hood checked out on double eight.
The scoreboard indicated that the player, nicknamed Happy Feet, needed double four to win the leg.
In reality, it had miscalculated – though it didn’t affect Hood, as he made no errors with his throw.
This left bewildered fans questioning their arithmetic, with one commenting: “I am completely baffled.”
Another added: “What on earth is Sky doing with this scoreboard change for Noppert-Hood?”
Others humorously remarked: “Do the folks at Sky Sports not know how to count?”
The official PDC account also found humor in the situation, tweeting: “Even the scoreboard has gone home for the day.”
In an attempt to rectify the technical issue, the channel temporarily removed its scoreboard in the bottom right corner in favor of a green one provided by the PDC.
This graphic was replaced a couple of times before the usual Sky design reappeared.
Amidst the confusion, commentator Dan Dawson clarified that Hood was indeed correct to aim for double eight.
However, the scoreboard issue occurred again later in the match during the deciding set.
