Bishop of The Methodist Church Nigeria, Egba Diocese, Abeokuta, Most Reverend Adegbemi Adewale, has urged residents of the state to containerize their wastes and stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roadsides, drainage channels and public places.
Adewale also asked traders in various markets to clean their environment regularly and dispose waste according to the standard regulations set by the state’s waste management authority.
According to him, doing this would help create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment.
The Bishop stated this while delivering his State of the Nation and Ogun State Address at the end of the 43rd Annual Synod/ Administrative and Judicial Meeting of the Church.
The service with the theme, ‘He will Arise Again’, was held on Sunday at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Asero Model Assembly, Abeokuta.
While appreciating the Ogun State Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA, for its improved and effective waste management, the Bishop noted that the state had become cleaner.
He insisted that OGWAMA, especially its operational units that keeps the state clean, must be commended.
“I can say without mincing words that Ogun State Waste Management Authority under the Ministry of Environment has improved tremendously. Our roads are no longer filled with dirts, we give kudos to the Commissioner for Environment and his team for keeping the state clean.
“We also enjoin citizens of the state to be responsible in disposing their waste.”;;
Adewale, who doubles as the chairman of the Ogun State Paralympic Tennis Association, praised the state government for hosting the 22nd National Sports Festival and urged citizens to extend their warmest hospitality to the athletes, officials and visitors who will be in the state for the Nigerian Olympic Games.
