Now, SunSport can disclose that former winger Caton-Brown is part of a second group aiming to preserve their legacy in case the club folds.
Since his time at the club from 2014 to 2016, Caton-Brown has ventured into business, focusing on property and superfood supply.
Former chief executive Chris Irwin and Salford's deputy mayor, Cllr Jack Youd, are reportedly involved with another consortium, which is believed to be further along in its intentions with the Rugby Football League.
However, Caton-Brown, 32, told SunSport: “It’s disheartening to see what could potentially happen to Salford.
“I cherished my time playing there and being part of the club, so I’ve expressed my willingness to help this new group start anew if necessary.”
Caton-Brown also emphasized that there is no association with the current owners, Isiosaia ‘Sire’ Kailahi and Curtiz Brown, who are hopeful that the much-discussed funding will be secured by November 30.

Wednesday’s unexpected High Court decision has thrown rugby league’s second tier into disarray as fixtures cannot be released.
Due to the structure implemented after the Championship merged with League One, the current Salford club would be seeded number one, having been relegated from Super League, while a new entity would be seeded 21, drastically altering the fixture arrangement.
HMRC, owed at least £626,000 but now likely closer to £1 million, along with fellow creditor Funding Cash Advance, has reportedly pushed for the petition to be converted into an order.
Nevertheless, discussions about a commercial agreement and a witness statement led to the adjournment being granted.
Calls are being made for the Rugby Football League, Salford City Council, or even Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to either withdraw their membership or terminate their stadium tenancy.
