In this day and age, the lack of air conditioning in a tourist attraction can be a dealbreaker during sweltering summers.

So it is no shock that management will go to any lengths to attract people – even if that means installing a “cyber AC”.

The unusual display was spotted at the outdoor waiting area of the Only Henan Drama Fantasy City attraction in Zhengzhou, central China.

Footage shows an AC on the screen appearing to blow streams of cool air towards visitors waiting beneath a shelter.

A fan is also seen spinning, creating the appearance of cooling equipment operating in the outdoor queue.

Some social media users reacted by saying: “Even the cyber AC can feel it.”

Others joked: “What kind of abstract thing is the attraction playing?”

The attraction finally responded to the online heat by explaining that the screen was deliberately used in the outdoor waiting area.

A member of staff said the area had a sunshade and was equipped with several real electric fans for visitors waiting outside.

“All the indoor theatres in the park are equipped with air conditioning and are open throughout the day,” they added.

They said that the virtual AC was not intended to replace the real cooling equipment, but was designed to soothe visitors and help them cope with the heat while queuing.

The attraction said: “The purpose of playing the air conditioner blowing air on the big screen is only to ease the irritability of tourists waiting in the heat.”

Staff later clarified that the virtual cooling display was only shown when temperatures exceeded 35C.

When temperatures fell in the days after the footage was recorded, the electronic screen was switched to other content.

Temperatures in Zhengzhou hover around the mid-30C during the , but have reached 40C in the past.
