The release of the kidnapped schoolchildren in Niger State has been confirmed by the Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna.
Rev. Yohanna is the proprietor of St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School, where more than 300 students, along with their teachers, were abducted by terrorists.
Yohanna mentioned that the Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, personally contacted him to share the positive news.
The Bishop stated that later today, the students and teachers will arrive in Minna, the capital of Niger State, where they will be formally welcomed by the governor at the Government House.
The media aide to the bishop, Dan Atori, confirmed this information in a brief statement.
Meanwhile, the presidency has announced that none of the kidnapped children remains with the abductors.
A spokesman for the President, Sunday Dare, made this announcement on Sunday.
“Another 130 abducted Niger State pupils have been released; none are left in captivity,” Dare posted on X.
Additionally, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed that all the schoolchildren have returned safely.
He praised the security agencies for their efforts in achieving this successful outcome.
