BBC Radio 2 legend Bob Harris has revealed he is back in hospital in a health update to his fans.

The star confirmed he had been forced to take a break from his broadcasting on the radio as a result of his issues.

Bob suffers from and confirmed that he was back in hospital amid his ongoing illness.

Sharing a snap from his hospital bed, Bob said: “Here I am in hospital taking short time away from my programmes on @bbcradio2 for treatment of an issue that has been building for the past few weeks.

“As many of you know, I suffer from prostate cancer, and every now and again I experience setbacks that need attention. Now is one of these moments.

“This week’s Country Show is all ready to go and Sounds of the 70’s on 12th April will be an 80th birthday celebration special, which I recorded just before @c2cfestival with my beautiful friend .

“After that @dariusrucker will be sitting in on Country and @shaunkeaveny_ will be looking after Sounds of the 70’s for a few weeks.”

Bob went on to clarify that he is unsure of when he will be able to make a return to the airwaves but hoped to be back stronger.

He said: “Although I can’t at the moment give an exact date for my return, I know that I will come back… and come back stronger.

“I hate missing programmes and I am keen to get back into the studio as soon as I can.

“Meanwhile, the @bbcradio2 family is supporting me every step of the way.

“I am so blessed to have the love of my family and the support of my friends who have rallied round me at what has proved to be an unexpectedly testing time. My manager Nick Canham at @cloreclients has also been absolutely amazing.”

He closed his message by saying: “Thank you with all my heart to them and to all my listeners whose words and messages here mean so much.

“I will be back…”

His fans and followers were quick to send him their well-wishes.

One said: “Hope you’re feeling much better soon.”

Another added: “Massive love and positive vibes Bob!”

Before a third wrote: “Big love and healing to you Bob, we miss you but more importantly heal well.”

Bob previously suffered a heart scare that

He suffered a tear to his aorta which he described as “extremely serious” at the time.

Bob has hosted The Country Show on for a number of years and famously hosted music show, The Old Grey Whistle Test, in the 1970s.

Symptoms of prostate cancer can include:

  • needing to pee more frequently, often during the night
  • needing to rush to the toilet
  • difficulty in starting to pee (hesitancy)
  • straining or taking a long time while peeing
  • weak flow
  • feeling that your bladder has not emptied fully
  • blood in urine or blood in semen
