Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of the French champion Paris St. Germain, will in future be a member of the Executive Committee of the European Football Union (UEFA). The appeal is likely to provoke criticism.

President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi of the French football champion Paris Saint-Germain is a new member of the UEFA Executive Committee. The association of European top clubs ECA elected the Qatari businessman as their second representative to the UEFA panel. This was announced by the ECA on Wednesday.

The UEFA Executive Committee, in addition to the President and 16 other members, consists of two ECA representatives and one representative of the European leagues. In addition to Al-Khelaïfi, ECA is chaired by Andrea Agnelli, also a Juventus president, executive member. The ECA has two seats, but the UEFA Congress on 7 February in Rome has to approve of the staff.

Appeal Al-Khelaifis should evoke criticism 

However, Al-Khelaïfi is also currently threatening trouble from UEFA. 
The European Football Union is investigating PSG for possible violations of the Financial Fair Play. The scheme aims to provide more equal opportunities in club football. Associations must therefore not spend more money than they take in unlimited amounts and the donations from sponsors must be market-standard. A conflict of interest of the Qatar could be suspected.
