The Premier League has been told to cancel the final round of fixtures before the World Cup begins.
Club games will be suspended after the weekend of November 12/13 fixtures before the tournament in Qatar kicks off on November 20
An increasing number of players are picking up injuries that could end their hopes of playing for their country in Qatar.
England left back, Ben Chilwell joined the list of World Cup doubts on Wednesday when he picked up a hamstring during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
Former Tottenham man, Jamie OâHara said it was time to cancel matches billed before the World Cup to enable players have some time to rest before the tournament.
Before Chilwell’s injury, the likes of Reece James, Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips were facing a race to be fit for England.
The likes of Diogo Jota will no longer be available for Portugal, while South Korea star, Heung-min Son is potentially missing out with a fracture around his left eye.
âYouâve lost Reece James, youâve lost Ben Chilwell, but for England itâs a serious problem. Players are dropping like flies,â OâHara told talkSPORT.
âCancel the last round of games in the Premier League, give them a bit of breathing space.
âThe Premier League should do it, or the players should get involved,” OâHara said.
O’Hara slammed the Premier League for always focusing more on the gains and caring just little about the players’ welfare and protection.
Going into the World Cup break, Arsenal are still top of the Premier League table with two points separating them and title holders Manchester City, who have been widely tipped to retain the trophy this season.
