After spending 16 days in detention, the Delta State Police Command has brought charges against Fejiro Oliver, the publisher of Secret Reporters, in the Asaba Judicial Division of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

Fejiro was apprehended by the police at his Abuja office on September 18, 2025, and subsequently taken to Asaba following a petition accusing him of cyberstalking Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, and others through a series of posts on Facebook.

The charge sheet, dated October 3, 2025, was signed by R.O. Eze Esq., Legal Officer of the Directorate of Legal Services at the Delta State Police Command in Asaba.

In the charges, Fejiro was alleged to have claimed that “the Governor traveled to Brazil without the public's knowledge and kept it ‘Hush-Hush’, ‘the governor awarded contracts worth billions of naira to his associates for election rigging’, and ‘the Governor sent government officials to China, spending millions of dollars merely to inspect CNG buses instead of attracting investors’.

Additionally, he was reported to have stated that “the Governor is a lethargic leader who rigged elections,” a comment that the police argued was “intended to tarnish his reputation and constitutes an offense punishable under Section 24 (2) (c) (ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015, as amended.”

In a separate accusation, Fejiro faced similar allegations concerning Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents the Delta Central Senatorial District.

The police asserted that Fejiro, “between May and July 2025, in Asaba, within the jurisdiction of the Asaba Judicial Division, published on his Facebook account under the name Fejiro Oliver, cyberstalking Senator Ede Dafinone, who currently represents Delta Central in the Nigerian Senate,” labeling him as “a grossly incompetent senator,” “a sleeping senator,” “a betraying ingrate,” “Dodo Senator,” “POS Senator,” “Scammer in NASS,” and declared that “Senator Ede Dafinone must be recalled from the Senate.”

The publication, according to the charges, was “intended to damage his reputation,” which is also punishable under Section 24 (2) (c) (ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015, as amended.

This action by the police follows a court order requiring them to justify within 48 hours why Fejiro should not be released unconditionally after his 16-day detention.

This order was issued on Thursday, October 2, 2025, by Justice F. A. Olubanjo, in response to an ex parte application submitted by Fejiro’s attorney and human rights advocate, Inibehe Effiong.

Fejiro has been held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Asaba.

In response to these developments, Fejiro’s lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, characterized the charges as baseless, asserting that they represent a desperate attempt to keep his client incarcerated.
