The Management of Plateau University, Bokkos, has sanctioned 76 students found guilty of examination malpractice.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Jos by Mr. Ngwen Jacob on behalf of Mr. Masara Kim, the acting Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the university.
According to the statement, the sanctions were approved by the university’s Senate during its 102nd regular meeting, chaired by Prof. Moses Galadima, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
The decision followed a report presented to the Senate by the institution’s Committee on Examination Misconducts.
Kim explained that the students committed the offences during the second semester examinations of the 2024/2025 academic session.
“The committee investigated 76 students apprehended during the examinations. Offences included bringing mobile phones into examination halls, carrying written notes, and writing inscriptions on body parts related to examination questions,” he said.
After careful deliberation, the Senate approved sanctions in line with the provisions of the university’s student handbook.
Punishments range from rustication for one academic session, compulsory carryover of affected courses, to outright expulsion in severe cases.
Kim further stated that the university remains steadfast in its zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice.
He noted that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shedrach Best, has consistently emphasized the institution’s commitment to integrity, discipline, and sound moral values.
