Residents of Irigwe Chiefdom, in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State have raised security alerts over potential coordinated attacks on several villages in the district ahead of the upcoming Easter celebrations and the Zrrechi festival.

According to reports made available to DAILY POST on Saturday, several communities are being targeted in the planned assaults, including Zarwa, Tafigana, Kpachudu, and Kpasho.

According to the reports that have been forwarded to security agencies, the alerts stem from intelligence gathered and sightings of hundreds of armed men on motorcycles moving towards a community known as Mararaban Dare on Friday night, raising fears of renewed violence during periods historically linked to deadly attacks in the region.

A youth leader in the community, who spoke with DAILY POST on the condition of anonymity, said the situation has been reported to security agencies. However, no official confirmation has been released.

He, however, stated that instead of waiting for security agencies to act on the alerts, the communities are mobilizing local vigilante groups to increase vigilance, especially at night, and restricting non-essential movement to protect the residents.

Calls to the spokespersons of the Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, and the state Police Command to get their comments on the security alerts were abortive as they neither picked up their calls nor responded to text messages before this publication.
