The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has emphasized that the tragedy in Angwan Rukuba, Plateau State should act as a wake-up call for all leaders, communities, security agencies, and political figures to transcend divisions and collaborate in unity to address the forces of violence that threaten the peace of the state and other regions of the country.
The APC chairman made this statement during his visit to Angwan Rukuba to express condolences to the victims of the tragic attack.
Accompanied by his wife, Dr Martina Yilwatda, he visited those receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH.
During the visit, Professor Yilwatda condemned the attack as barbaric, painful, and unacceptable, characterizing it as a direct assault on shared humanity. He stressed the urgent need for all stakeholders to move beyond mere condemnation and to work intentionally and collectively to prevent any recurrence of such senseless violence.
In a statement issued by Mr Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman of APC on Media and Communications Strategy, Yilwatda remarked that the suffering of the victims and their families is a burden that should be shared by all individuals of conscience. He added that no society can achieve meaningful progress while innocent citizens continue to live in fear and uncertainty.
He affirmed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is firmly committed to restoring peace, enhancing security operations, and ensuring that all regions of the country, including Plateau State, experience the safety and stability essential for development and peaceful coexistence.
Professor Yilwatda reassured the victims and their families that the Federal Government is fully dedicated to ensuring that every Nigerian life is valued, protected, and defended against criminality, violence, and terror.
The National Chairman also extended his condolences during a visit to the Paramount Ruler of Jos North Local Government Area, the Ujah Anaguta, in response to the tragic attack on the residents of Anguwan Rukuba, a community located within his jurisdiction.
The APC National Chairman emphasized that “the tragedy in Plateau must not be normalized, politicized, or reduced to another fleeting news cycle.
“It must incite a renewed sense of urgency, coordinated efforts, enhanced intelligence gathering, deeper community involvement, and ongoing security measures to ensure that communities throughout the state are safeguarded against further assaults.
He urged political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organizations, civil society groups, and community stakeholders to “unite and reject all forms of hatred, division, provocation, and violence that could jeopardize the peace and unity of Plateau State.”
Yilwatda asserted that Plateau, with its rich diversity, historical significance, and strategic relevance, “must not be permitted to spiral into cycles of bloodshed, sorrow, and instability.”
He confirmed that the APC, the Federal Government, and all responsible parties “are united in their commitment to ensure that such horrific events do not recur and that every necessary measure will be taken to restore confidence, enhance peace, and guarantee security for all residents of the state.”
The APC National Chairman stated that “the killing of innocent citizens must cease, the offenders must not succeed, and peace must be fully and permanently restored to Plateau State.”
