The Patriots’ trade for Lions tight end Michael Roberts fell through Friday when Roberts failed his physical, a league source confirmed.Roberts reverted back to the Lions, who subsequently waived the third-year tight end.The trade was made Thursday, and the Patriots weren’t giving up much — a conditional 2020 seventh-round pick, one they obtained from Atlanta in a trade for safety Jordan Richards last year.Roberts, a fourth-round pick in 2017, has just 13 catches for 146 yards and three touchdowns in two seasons. He landed on injured reserve for the final eight games last year with a shoulder injury.The Patriots’ quest to replace Rob Gronkowski now continues with Ben Watson, Matt LaCosse, Ryan Izzo, Stephen Anderson, and Andrew Beck.
