JTBC’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama “Good Boy”; has unveiled behind-the-scenes stories about the intense action training undertaken by its main cast members.
“Good Boy”; is a comic action drama that follows a group of former national athletes Yoon Dong Joo (Park Bo Gum), Ji Han Na (Kim So Hyun), Kim Jong Hyun (Lee Sang Yi), Go Man Sik (Heo Sung Tae), and Shin Jae Hong (Tae Won Suk)âwho become police officers through a special recruitment program. Swapping medals for badges, they take on a world full of corruption, deception, and injustice.
First, in order to portray the boxing gold medalist Yoon Dong Joo, Park Bo Gum consistently underwent strength training and boxing practice for over six months.
Park Bo Gum remarked, “As a member of the special task force, I put my all into every scene. To keep up with the rapidly changing choreography, I repeated the moves over and over until they became second nature.”;
Kim So Hyun, who takes on the role of Ji Han Naâa former “shooting goddess”; who becomes a sergeant in the special task forceâchallenged herself with her first-ever firearm action scenes. Shooting training required both intense concentration and physical endurance, as she sometimes had to hold the same position for more than 40 minutes.
Kim So Hyun shared, “At first, even the weight of the gun felt overwhelming, but as time went on, the gun started to feel like an extension of my own body. During action training, I even came to enjoy the muscle soreness.”;
Lee Sang Yi, who plays Kim Jong Hyun, a police officer and former fencing silver medalist, underwent intensive training for about six months.
Lee Sang Yi said, “Because my character is a former medalist, I really wanted to portray fencing convincingly. So I repeatedly trained my lower body strength and quick footwork and also practiced striking and subduing techniques using a three-section baton.”;
Heo Sung Tae, who plays Go Man Sik, the team leader of the special task force and a former national wrestling team member, received one-on-one special training from an actual wrestler and gained about five kilograms to build a solid physique for the role.
Heo Sung Tae shared, “Even when I went hiking, I would climb in a wrestling stanceâkeeping my knees slightly bent and engaging my core and thighs,”; revealing his unique approach to training.
Lastly, Tae Won Suk takes on the role of Shin Jae Hong, a former discus thrower who once threw farther than anyone else in the vast athletics stadium. To maximize his resemblance to the character, he gained an impressive 20 kilograms compared to his previous roles.
Tae Won Suk expressed, “Since it was my first time trying this sport, there were many challenges, but after repeated practice, we were able to capture some very satisfying scenes.”;
