Wix Pricing and Plans Explained: Which One to Choose and Why image

Wix is one of the most popular website builders available. The tool is easy to use, comes with hundreds of high-quality templates, and offers integrations with hundreds of popular tools. But which plan provides the best value? I’ve taken a close look at Wix pricing to help you figure that out.

In this guide, we will explore:

By the time you’re finished reading, you should know what Wix plan is best for your business.

πŸ†“ The free Wix plan

We generally don’t recommend using a free site for a business website, but it’s important to note that Wix does offer a free plan. The free plan gives you access to the Wix site building tool, quality hosting with 99.9% guaranteed uptime and great loading speeds, and hundreds of professionally designed templates.

Unfortunately, the free version of Wix also comes with strict limitations:

  • Maximum storage of 500MB
  • Maximum monthly bandwidth of 500MB
  • No ability to get rid of Wix ads
  • No ability to accept online payments
  • No access to Google Analytics

These limitations make the free version of Wix all right for a hobby site or a portfolio, but less than ideal for a business site.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Wix Website plans

Wix Website plans are designed for people who want to create professionally looking websites without diving into eCommerce. None of these plans offer the option to accept payment online, so you won’t be able to build a store if you choose a Website plan.

Here’s a  quick look  at what the website plans have to offer:

Wix pricing: Website plans

Connect Domain Must be purchased separately ❌ 1GB 500MB $75/year including domain

Connect domain

This plan is almost identical to the Wix plan, with two key differences: you can use your own domain name, and you get 1GB of monthly bandwidth.

βš™οΈ Notable features

β›” Notable limitations

  • 500MB storage
  • No analytics
  • No way to remove Wix ads
  • You must purchase a domain yourself
  • No access to online payments/eCommerce tools

πŸ’΅ Cost:
The Connect Domain plan is available for $5/month (a total of $60/year). You’ll also need to buy a domain name, which typically costs around $10-15/year. This brings the total annual cost of this plan to $70-75 per year.

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Who this plan is best for

If you have an extremely limited budget and you want to create a basic website to host your professional portfolio, the Connect Domain plan is a worthwhile choice.

Combo

The Combo plan is the most affordable Wix plan that doesn’t have ads. You’ll also get access to more storage, analytics, and the ability to host 30 minutes of recorded video directly on your site.

βš™οΈ Notable features

  • Free SSL certificate
  • Ad-free site
  • Free domain for one year
  • 2GB bandwidth
  • 3GB storage space
  • Ability to host 30 minutes of video directly on your site

β›” Notable limitations

πŸ’΅ Cost:
The Combo plan costs $10/month, for a total of $120 in the first year. In the second year, you’ll be required to renew your domain at the regular Wix domain pricing. For a .com domain, this will cost $14.95/year, bringing the annual cost up to $134.95/year in the second year.

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Who this plan is best for

The Combo plan is a great option for people who want to create a professional, ad-free site for their side business or professional profile.

Unlimited

The Unlimited plan is designed for entrepreneurs and freelancers who don’t rely on an eCommerce store for their business. This plan nets you unlimited bandwidth, 10GB of storage, and access to additional business tools.

βš™οΈ Notable features

  • Free SSL certificate
  • Ad-free site
  • Free domain for one year
  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • 10GB storage
  • Ability to host up to one hour of video directly on your Wix site

β›” Notable limitations

  • No access to Wix eCommerce tools

πŸ’΅ Cost:
The Ultimate plan costs $14/month, for a total of $168 in the first year. In the second year, you’ll be required to renew your domain at the regular Wix domain pricing. For a .com domain, this will cost $14.95/year, bringing your total cost to $182.95.

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Who this plan is best for

The Ultimate plan is ideal for long-term freelancers and agencies with large portfolios. The unlimited bandwidth also makes this an ideal solution for businesses that expect rapid growth.

VIP

With the VIP plan, Wix doesn’t just give you the tools to build a website. It gives you the tools to build a business. You’ll receive a custom logo, social media logo files, and access to priority customer care. The plan also offers a solid 35GB of storage space.

βš™οΈ Notable features

  • Free SSL certificate
  • Ad-free site
  • Free domain for one year
  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • 35GB storage
  • Ability to host up to five hours of video directly on your Wix site
  • Customized logo + optimized logo files for social media
  • Priority customer care

β›” Notable limitations

  • No access to Wix eCommerce tools

πŸ’΅ Cost:
The VIP plan costs $29/month, for a total of $348 in the first year. In the second year, you’ll be required to renew your domain at the regular Wix pricing. For a .com, this will be $14.95/year, bringing your total cost to $362.95/year in the second year.

πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ Who this plan is best for

The VIP plan is a good choice if you’re building a freelance or agency business from scratch thanks to the added logo. However, in most instances, I would recommend sticking with one of the more affordable plans. If you want to create five hours of video, you can always host them on YouTube and embed them on your Wix site from there.

πŸ€Όβ€β™‚οΈ How do the Wix Website plans compare to the competition?

Wix Website plans are somewhat more affordable than plans offered by the company’s most popular competitor, Squarespace. However, the pricing structure of Squarespace is simpler, with only four plans:

Squarespace pricingSquarespace pricing

The Personal plan is also the only Squarespace plan that doesn’t include any eCommerce functionality. This makes the other Squarespace plans more versatile than any of the Wix Website plans.

Wix Website plans are also more expensive, and more limited, than choosing a shared web hosting plan and installing WordPress. Shared hosting plans typically cost under $2-3/month and include more features, including a permanently free domain.

⚑ All in all, the cost of Wix Website plans is considerable for what they offer. If you really want to work with the Wix website builder, we recommend investing in one of the more flexible Business & eCommerce plans.

πŸ‘” Wix Business & eCommerce plans

Wix also offers three plans specifically for eCommerce businesses. These plans feature tools for selling products, services, and event tickets. Wix Business & eCommerce plans also have tools for brick-and-mortar businesses, like order management for restaurants and reservation management for hotels.

Here’s a  quick breakdown  of the Business & eCommerce plans:

πŸ€Όβ€β™€οΈ How do the Wix Business/eCommerce plans compare to the competition?

To get a better grasp of the value offered by Wix Business/eCommerce plans, I took a look at the plans offered by Squarespace (the competition most known for its website builder) and Shopify (the most well-known stand-alone eCommerce platform in North America). I’ll also touch on the costs of setting up an eCommerce store with WordPress + WooCommerce.

Squarespace

Let’s start with Squarespace. The first plan with eCommerce capability is the “Business” plan, available for $12/month or $144/year. This is notably more affordable than the Wix Business Basics plan, which costs $240 for the first year and $254.95 in later years. However, you’ll be stuck paying a transaction fee of 3%, so this plan can become more expensive then the Wix Business Basics plan.

The other two plans, however, are actually more expensive than their Wix counterparts.

Here’s a quick breakdown to show you the key differences between advanced business plans on Squarespace and Wix:

Squarespace and Wix pricing compared
Plan Name Wix Business Unlimited Squarespace Business Wix Business VIP Squarespace Basic Commerce Squarespace Advanced Commerce
Bandwidth Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited
Storage 35GB Unlimited 50GB Unlimited Unlimited
Products Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited
Abandoned cart recovery βœ… ❌ βœ… βœ… βœ…
Paid Subscriptions βœ… ❌ βœ… ❌ βœ…
Cost $300/year one; rises to $314.95/year in year two $216/year + 3% transaction fees $420/year one; rises to $434.95/year in year two $312/year $480/year

When you compare plans, it becomes clear that the higher tier Wix Business/eCommerce plans are more affordable than their Squarespace counterparts, especially if you want to sell subscriptions.

Shopify

Shopify may be the most well-known eCommerce-specific platform, at least in North America, but it’s also one of the most expensive options around. Take a look at the company’s plans:

Wix Pricing - Shopify PricingWix Pricing - Shopify Pricing

The Basic Shopify plan, at $348/year, is already more expensive than the Wix pricing for Business Basics and Business Unlimited plans. So is Shopify even worth considering?

In our opinion, this depends mainly on your business’s location and the types of products you sell. You see, along with a great store builder and advanced sales options, Shopify offers heavy discounts (at least 77%) on shipping with DHL Express, UPS, and USPS. This means North American businesses that sell lots of physical products can, over time, save money by using Shopify.

On the other hand, if you sell digital products, services, or event tickets, Wix pricing offers the more affordable option.

WordPress + WooCommerce

This is a WordPress blog, so we would be remiss not to include it in this roundup.

WordPress and WooCommerce are both free tools, so you can set up a basic eCommerce site for only the cost of shared hosting. Many shared hosts offer plans starting at less than $3/month (or $36/year). This is significantly less than the cost of $240 for a Wix Business Basics plan.

Final advice on Wix pricing

All in all, Wix pricing is more affordable than popular competitors, like Squarespace and Shopify. However, the Website plans offer limited monetization options; you can get the best value for your dollar by investing in the Business Basics plan right away. This will give you access to all of the tools you need to monetize your business by selling products, services, and event tickets.
