Morbius or Dr. Michael Morbius, Ph.D., M.D, is a character from Marvel comics who is referred to as Morbius, the Living Vampire that debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 and was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. After the success of Venom and Joker, the villain solo lead film craze continues to dominate, and Morbius looks to capitalize off this wave of evildoer-focused motion pictures.
The film is directed by filmmaker Daniel Espinosa, who is known for helming such films as Safe House, Child 44, and Life. The feature stars Jared Leto as the titular character, a biochemist who tries to cure himself of the rare blood disease, slowly killing him only to gain superhuman abilities.
Also in the cast are some talented individuals, including Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Michael Keaton, who is known for his roles in Batman and Birdman, is set to appear in the film as Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture, the character he played in the MCU film Spider-Man: Homecoming.
When will Morbius be available on Netflix?
The Sony and Netflix deal kicks into gear in 2022 and will see titles from the studio become available on these streaming services after the home entertainment window closes, which is often around 18 months after a film’s theatrical run. Variety first announced the pact that gives Netflix exclusive US rights post-PVOD to Sony flicks on April 14, 2021.
The Morbius release date has been delayed several times, and the feature will now come out on January 28, 2022. Per the terms of the deal, this would indicate that the movie would be available to stream on Netflix sometime in 2023.
Morbius joins an impressive lineup of Sony releases that will be available on Netflix as part of this deal, including Bullet Train, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2, and Uncharted starring Tom Holland.Next: 50 best Netflix movies to watch right now
