The Witcher season 2 release date, cast, trailer, synopsis and more image

Finally, we’re starting to learn more about The Witcher season 2. And, we have some great news to share!

Even before fans binge-watched the first season at the end of 2019, Netflix shared that The Witcher was already coming back for season 2!

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is back as the showrunner for season 2 of the Netflix series, and the creative team will continue to bring the books by Andrzej Sapkowski to life.

Fans all over the world are anxiously awaiting The Witcher season 2, and we can’t blame them! To help you get ready for the new season, we listed everything we know about the new season. Below, we shared The Witcher season 2 release date, cast, trailer, synopsis and more!

The Witcher season 2 release date

Netflix hasn’t announced the release date or month for The Witcher season 2, but we do have some updates on The Witcher season 2 release date.

During its Q1 earnings call, Ted Sarandos announced The Witcher season 2 is coming to Netflix in Q4 2021. That means we’re going to see the new season this year!

The Witcher season 2 recently wrapped production in the spring of 2021. They’ll have about eight or nine months to up the season together in post-production.

So, we’ll see The Witcher season 2 on Netflix between October and December 2021. I’m thinking it’ll be more like December 2021 around the holidays for this one.

The Witcher season 2 cast

Netflix has not confirmed the full cast of The Witcher season 2 yet, but we know many of the characters from season 1 will return.

Henry Cavill will be back as Geralt of Rivia, alongside Freya Allan as Ciri and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.

It also looks like Joey Batey,  MyAnna Buring, Lars Mikkelson, Eamon Farren, Tom Canton, Lilly Cooper, Jeremy Crawford, Eamon Farren, Mahesh Jadu, Terence Maynard,
Mimi Ndiweni, Therica Wilson Read, Royce Pierreson, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte, and Anna Shaffer will be reprising their roles from season 1, according to Cinema Blend.

There are a few new cast members headed to season 2: Agnes Bjorn, Yasen Atour, Paul Bullion, Thue Ersted Rasmussen, Aisha Fabienne Ross, and Mecia Simson. They’ll join Kristofer Hivju, best known for his role of Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones, and Kim Bodnia in the new season of The Witcher.

Because The Witcher deals in so many different timelines, there’s a good chance that we could see characters who were killed off in the new season in new flashbacks in season 2.

The Witcher season 2 trailer

Netflix has not shared The Witcher season 2 trailer yet. We’re expecting that we’ll start to see some footage from season 2 sometime in 2021.

We’ll let you know when that trailer drops.

Netflix did share the first look at The Witcher season 2!

The Witcher season 2 synopsis

We haven’t seen The Witcher season 2 synopsis yet. We’re hoping to see some news about what the season will be about soon, but it probably won’t be released until 2021.

In the meantime, we can speculate about what’s to come in season 2.

At the end of the first season, we saw Ciri and Geralt meet for the first time. They found each other amidst the chaos around them. We know that they will meet up with Yennefer, but we don’t know when.

We also know Nilfgaard is in the middle of a major power play and has the backing and/or apathy of many of the mages behind them. We will likely see how many of the Northern Kingdoms will fight back against the Nilfgaardians in season 2.

In the new season, we’re expecting most of the story to continue to follow Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer. How can they keep Ciri safe from Nilfgaard? That’s the major question heading into the new season.

The Witcher season 2 episode count

There are eight episodes in the new season of The Witcher, just like the first season.

I really liked the eight-episode season in the first season. Some of the episodes were a little long, but that was fine. I like long episodes of some shows like The Witcher where each episode is like its own story inside the greater story.

That’s all we know about The Witcher season 2 so far! Stay tuned for more news about the new season.
