Stranger Things season 4 release date

Stranger Things season 4 is officially in the works!

Fans around the world are hoping to find out when the Stranger Things season 4 release date on Netflix will be. Hopefully, we can help!

Below, we shared the expected release date for the new season, along with the cast, trailer and synopsis.

As we get closer to the release date and find out more information, we’ll be sure to share any and all relevant information here.

Likely Release Date: Early 2022

Netflix renewed Stranger Things for season 4 in September 2019, about three months after the Stranger Things 3 release date with an excellent teaser trailer. Since then, we’ve learned a lot about the Stranger Things season 4 release date.

The cast and crew started filming Stranger Things season 4 in early 2020. We don’t know the exact date production started. According to a report from TV Line, production was supposed to last through August with three main locations, Lithuania, Atlanta, and New Mexico.

If production would have stayed on schedule, the Stranger Things season 4 release date would have been in early 2021, according to star David Harbour. We’ve been thinking that we’d see Stranger Things season 4 on Valentine’s Day 2021 or sometime around that time.

Unfortunately, production on Stranger Things season 4 was shut down in March 2020 because of the coronavirus. We don’t know when production will begin again, but Netflix won’t send this cast, crew, and creative team back to work before it’s completely safe to do so.

That means Stranger Things season 4 was delayed. Harbour mentioned in a Q&A on Instagram that the fourth season would be “pushed back,” but obviously, even those associated with the show don’t know when that will be.

Stranger Things season 4 has resumed filming. Netflix confirmed the restart of production on Oct. 1, 2020.

Even if there are no major production delays from here on out, we’re looking at waiting until 2022 until we see Stranger Things season 4. Finn Wolfhard recently told a fan on Fanmio that Stranger Things season 4 “should be out sometime next year,” meaning we won’t get to see the season until 2022.

Likely, it will be early 2022. Stranger Things season 4 is set to wrap production sometime in the late summer or early fall of 2021, according to the rumors. Then, we’ll have to wait about six months or so until the season is ready to be released.

That puts the Stranger Things season 4 release date somewhere in the early to spring 2022 area.

Stranger Things season 4 cast

The main Stranger Things cast is all back for season 4! This includes Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, Charlie Heaton, and Cara Buono.

David Harbour is also returning as Hopper! It’s true; Hopper is alive. The series confirmed the character’s fate in a teaser trailer released on Valentine’s Day.

Maya Hawke will also return as Robin in season 4. We also learned that Brett Gelman and Priah Ferguson have been upped to series regulars for the new season.

The supporting cast should be rounded out by Paul Reiser, Joe Chrest, Gabrielle Pizzolo, and Matthew Cardarople.

We also learned that Game of Thrones actor Tom Wlaschiha has been cast in the new season. He appears to play a Russian guard where Hopper is located. Hopefully, he goes easy on our Stranger Things fans’ favorite character.

On Nov. 20, 2020, Netflix confirmed a bunch of new cast members for Stranger Things season 4, including Robert Englund, Mason Dye, Tom Wlaschiha, Nikola Djuricko, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sherman Augustus, Eduardo Franco, and Joseph Quinn.

We also learned a bunch about who those actors will be playing in the new season. Eduardo Franco is a series regular in season 4, and he’ll be playing Jonathan’s best friend, Argyle. Joseph Quinn is another series regular, and he’ll be playing Eddie, the head of the Hawkins High D&D club, The Hellfire Club. Jamie Campbell Bower also is a series regular in season 4, and he plays Peter Ballard.

It has not been confirmed, but it appears that Maya Hawke’s brother, Levon Thurman-Hawke, will join the cast of Stranger Things season 4. We’re waiting for Netflix to make that news official soon.

I’m also expecting a few others who we haven’t seen in a while to be back for season 4, including Matthew Modine as Dr. Brenner and Linnea Berthelson as Kali. Modine was spotted around set recently, and there have been some rumors that we’ll see Kali’s friends from season 2 back for season 4, as well.

Based on some rumors and reports floating around online, we also saw there are going to be more than a few new characters in the new season. We’ll be sure to update this section as we learn more about the cast.

There’s probably a good chance we could see some characters who died in flashbacks, including Billy, Bob, Bard, and others. That means the show could bring back Dacre Montgomery, Sean Astin, and Shannon Purser. We don’t know for sure, but it would make sense, and the show has done things like that in the past.

Oh, and of course, the Demogorgon, played by Mark Steger, is officially back for season 4!

Stranger Things season 4 trailer

We haven’t seen the official trailer for Stranger Things 4 yet. That likely won’t be released until we’re a few months away from the season premiere. At this point, it’s looking like we could see the first trailer later this year, depending on how things go, or sometime in 2021.

We’ll share the official trailer as soon as we find out.

There are a few rumors that a Stranger Things season 4 trailer could be released soon, but we’re not sure if those are true or not.

We have seen a sneak peek at Stranger Things season 4, though!

On Valentine’s Day, Netflix shared the first look at the new season. The trailer revealed Hopper was still alive, but he’s in a tough spot. He’s stuck in a Russian prison/work camp. We saw Hopper and the rest of the prisoners building a railway line in the frozen middle of nowhere.

Obviously, this was great news for fans of the series. Hopper was thought to be dead immediately after the machine under the Starcourt Mall exploded. In the final scene of the season, it looked like Hopper was actually alive in a Russian prison. As it turns out, he was!

Hopper is one of the best characters in the series, and it’s great that he is returning for the new season. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be too easy for him.

Check out the trailer below!

On Stranger Things Day 2020, we also got another look at some Stranger Things season 4 action. It’s not much, but there’s likely something to it.

There appears to be a bigger Dungeons & Dragons game in the works. Is it The Hellfire Club? We’ll find out soon!

Stranger Things season 4 synopsis

Netflix has not shared the official synopsis for Stranger Things season 4 just yet. We can expect to see that synopsis as we get closer to the release date.

We’ll add the synopsis to this section as soon as it’s released by the streaming service.

It’s not all bad news, though. The Duffer brothers made a statement after it was revealed that Hopper was, indeed, still alive, and it’s pretty chilling. We shared the Duffer brother’s statement below, via The Hollywood Reporter:

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and  even more excited to announce the return of Hopper,” brothers Matt and Ross Duffer revealed in a message written to fans “from Russia with love.”

“It’s not all good news for our ‘American,'” they continue. “He is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human … and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything …

“Season four is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”

There’s a lot to break down in that statement!

In Russia, Hopper is really up against it! We know how horrible they treated Steve and Robin when they were captured, and that was just to get information out of them. Think how bad they will be treating Hopper, one of the reasons their mission to open the gate to the Upside Down failed.

Based on the character descriptions that were just released, Hopper has befriended a Russian guard, Dmitri, played by Tom Wlaschiha. We also know that Yuri, played by Nikola Djuricko, is a Russian smuggler. Could he be Hopper’s way out?

Hopper will also be facing, likely, the Demogorgon and other creatures from the Upside Down. Based on the Demogorgon’s presence at the end of the season, I’m guessing there might be a gate open over there. Hopefully, the Mind Flayer doesn’t find it!

Stateside, there are more problems on the way, as well. That “new horror” and “something long buried” does not sound very good! The Hawkins Heroes might be called upon again to save the day.

I’m glad to see the emphasis on connecting everything in the new season. I think we’ll learn a lot about how the Upside Down was opened and why. There’s still so much we don’t know about Eleven’s powers, the program Brenner was running, and if there are other places like Hawkins and people like Eleven in the United States.

We recently learned that the new season will likely be set during basketball season, based on an image from the Stranger Things season 4 set. That means the season will likely take place between November 1985 (one month after season 3) and March/April 1986.

It appears that The Hellfire Club will have a big impact on the new season. The Hellfire Club, as we just learned, is the Hawkins High D&D club led by Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn. I’m guessing that Mike, Lucas, Dustin and some of the other main characters will be involved with the club.

From the character descriptions, we know there is some part of the story that takes place at a psychiatric hospital. We don’t know if that’s in Hawkins or not.

We’ll just have to wait and find out what happens. Stay tuned for more news about Stranger Things season 4.
