Shows and movies like Sailor Moon Eternal

Netflix’s June 2021 movie lineup includes some pretty intriguing titles, like Awake starring Gina Rodriguez, Skater Girl, and Wish Dragon. However, one particular long-awaited movie, arguably, is he one that anime fans looked forward to the most.

Part 1 and Part 2 of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal premiered on Netflix today, and the nostalgia of our childhood-favorite shojo anime is hitting our feels hard.

We were once again reminded of how awesome the Sailor Guardians are with how they stop at nothing to defeat the evil entities that try to overtake the planet Earth.

It’s been a while since we’ve received a movie from this iconic anime series, so it’s completely understandable if you stayed up all night to watch both parts of the movie. But now, you’re probably going through some serious girl power withdrawals.

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Here are five Netflix movies and shows to fill that Usagi Tsukino-sized hole in your heart.

Little Witch Academia

First up, is the anime series Little Witch Academia!

The anime is about a young girl named Akko who aspires to be like her role model, Shiny Chariot. However, to do so she must become stronger, so she enrolls herself in a magical school where she stumbles upon other girls like her. Akko learns how to embrace her unique strengths as well as have fun with her new friends.

The anime series is all about friendship, teamwork, and girls being there for one another just like our favorite Sailor Guardians would.

Netflix currently has two seasons of this exciting fantasy anime on their platform and you’re sure to have a great time binge-watching the show.

Best Netflix movies - Is Moxie based on a book? - movies on Netflix

Speaking of girl power, Moxie! is sure to have you standing up for your fellow gals as the film teaches you how to fight against patriarchy.

Vivian normally turned a blind eye to a lot of the unfair, sexist behavior that would plague her high school, but upon meeting Lucy, a girl who needed someone to fight for her, she is inspired to bring girls together to call out the misogynistic norm. Something that Usagi Tsukino would totally do.

Oh, and the film was directed by and stars Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler, so you definitely should give it a watch.

A Whisker Away

Do you remember watching Sailor Moon for the first time and desperately wanting a cat like Luna by your side?

Well, A Whisker Away is sure to bring back those memories as the movie depicts the life of a girl named Miyo Sasaki who turns into a cat to get her crush to notice her. Initially, she was making positive strides towards learning all about her crush, but once she started to get too comfortable in her animal form, she didn’t want to return to her previous body.

Perhaps, Miyo and Luna would be the best of friends as they are both undoubtedly devoted to the ones they love.

Up next, we have the anime series K-On! that has talented girls who have big dreams of becoming famous musicians. Humble beginnings start at their school’s music club where they practice relentlessly to become more skilled in their instrument.

Setbacks, successes, and sugary snacks are what make this anime truly one to watch. Be sure to catch the first two seasons of K-On! as they are currently streaming on Netflix.

This last recommendation was absolutely a no-brainer. Click below to see the last Netflix title similar to Sailor Moon Eternal.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

The animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power take the beauty of friendship to a completely different level as these dynamic, unique characters are all brought together to bring freedom to their land.

Some of your favorite actors and actresses have been featured in this Netflix series including Lost actor Daniel Dae Kim, To All the Boys, P.S. I Still Love You actor Jordan Fisher, actress Lorraine Toussaint from Orange is the New Black, and A.J. Michalka from Steven Universe is a part of She-Ra‘s main cast.

Killing Eve‘s Sandra Oh even voiced Castaspella for a couple of episodes, too! How cool is that?!

The premise of fighting against evil and having a talented cast is amazing all on its own, but what makes this series so meaningful is the exploration of sexuality and gender that is done in a way that inspires young children everywhere to love themselves as they are and to not be afraid of being different.

It’s hard not to imagine the Sailor Guardians and the Princesses of Power not fighting side by side, but if there could ever be a spin-off series featuring these powerful individuals, we would certainly be first in line to watch. (How about it, Netflix?)

Even though She-Ra has aired its final season last year, the impact of the show is evident all around, and you don’t want to miss a single minute of this amazing show. All five seasons of the animated series are currently on Netflix, so you can watch this beautiful journey from the beginning.

The magic of Sailor Moon Eternal can be seen in all these shows and movies!

Whether you decide to binge-watch every episode of She-Ra or decide to make your very own zine just like Vivian after watching Moxie! or even decide to start a band with your best friends, all the Sailor Guardians would be super proud!
