Bridgerton season 2 is not coming to Netflix in May 2021

Debuting on Christmas Day 2020, Bridgerton quickly managed to secure its place as one of the most popular shows on Netflix. Because of this, it’s not surprising that fans are anxious to know when Bridgerton season 2 might finally happen.

At the moment, there is only one season of Bridgerton available to watch on Netflix, and with just eight episodes to the first season, it’s understandable why fans are eager for the next season of the breakout series.

While the long-term future looks bright for Bridgerton fans, the unfortunate news is that we’re going to have to wait at least another few months before new episodes make their way to Netflix. This is because Bridgerton season 2 will not be coming to Netflix in May 2021.

Will there be a Bridgerton season 2?

Although Bridgerton season 2 will not be coming to Netflix in May 2021, a second season is indeed in the works as Netflix is betting big on its breakout Regency-era period piece. In fact, not only is a second season of Bridgerton in the works, but Netflix has already renewed the series for a third and fourth(!) season.

Bridgerton season 2 release date on Netflix

After Bridgerton season 1’s release in December 2020, Netflix has been fast-tracking season 2 which is far from surprising given Bridgerton‘s status as Netflix’s most-watched original!

In January 2021, Netflix and Shonda Rhimes announced that Bridgerton had been renewed for a second season and it wasn’t long after it was confirmed production would begin in Spring 2021. Currently, no formal start date has been announced, but it’s anticipated that production will start sometime in late April or early May at the latest.

Because production is only just getting started, Bridgerton season 2 will not be coming in May 2021; however, that doesn’t mean we can’t predict when the season might drop based on the timeline we saw with season 1!

Last year, Bridgerton managed to complete production on season 1 in March just before the pandemic began causing shutdowns. After wrapping production on season 1 in March 2020, the show went through post-production and eventually debuted nine months later in December 2021.

If the show requires an extended post-production window once again with season 2, there is a possibility we could see Bridgerton season 2 drop in early 2022. That said, Netflix seems very interested in capitalizing on the show’s popularity and the hope seems to be that season 2 will arrive in December 2021.

At this point, we’ll have to wait to see when Netflix decides to roll out season 2 with the only certainty about the upcoming season being that it will be without breakout star Rege-Jean Page.
