Best shows on Netflix: Happy!

Grant Morrison is a major player in the world of comic books known for his work with DC Comic’s Batman, Doom Patrol, JLA, Action Comics, All-Star Superman, The Flash, Vertigo’s The Invisible, and more. He also created the 2013 four-volume series Happy! That has been turned into an exceptional live-action endeavor.

The Happy! comics follow an interesting character named Nick Sax; a corrupt ex-cop turned hitman who has issues with drinking and other bad habits. Things in his world get even crazier when a hit goes wrong, resulting in him taking a bullet in his side and ending up on the run from both sides of the law. A child killer dressed as Santa also comes into play, and when things look like it’s all over, the titular tiny blue horse appears to help Sax save the day.

In the action-comedy crime series, the two meet after Nick, who is played by Law & order: Organized Crime star Christopher Meloni, has a heart attack and Happy!, an animated blue horse character voiced by comedian Patton Oswalt shows up claiming to be the imaginary friend of his estranged daughter Hailey who has been abducted by the very bad Santa.

There two seasons of Happy! available on Netflix.

Best shows on Netflix: The Punisher

Frank Castle is the furthest thing from a superheat but still remains one of the most popular Marvel characters ever to grace the pages of a comic book. Writer Gerry Conway and artists John Ramita Sr. and Ross Andru outdid themselves when it came to The Punisher, who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in February 1974. Ever since then, his skull has become the face of fear when it comes to vigilante justice within the world of comics. There is no denying the gun-toting badass who utilizes extreme violence in his efforts against crime.

Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson have brought the character to life on the big screen in 2004’s The Punisher and 2008’s Punisher: War Zone. But it’s hard to deny that the Netflix original series starring Jon Bernthal as the titular character is the best interpretation out there of the beloved Marvel hero.

The Punisher was first introduced in the second season of Daredevil and soon after received his own solo endeavor, which proved to be a massive hit with subscribers. Castle’s effort to avenge his family continues with blood and bullies in what can only be desired as a well-crafted action-packed thrill ride.

There are two seasons of The Punisher available on Netflix.
