The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has announced that the Dangote refinery supplies an average of up to 20 million liters of petrol daily across the nation.
The Chief Executive Officer of NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed, shared this information on Thursday during the annual conference of the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC) held in Lagos.
Ahmed stated, “Undoubtedly, the operation of the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote refinery has transformed the supply dynamics, contributing an average of up to 20 million liters daily, with the potential for future increases, which we all hope to witness as time progresses.”
Represented by the NMDPRA spokesperson, George Ene-Ita, Ahmed emphasized that the nation’s daily consumption is “approximately 50 million liters of PMS daily.”
“We need to support the largest refinery to ensure it can enhance local consumption and supply,” he remarked.
“To further bolster our energy security, it is essential to operationalize petroleum product stock in accordance with the provisions of the PIA 2021, creating a buffer against significant supply disruptions,” he added.
