The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Christopher Musa, has urged Nigerians to come together to overcome insurgency and insecurity.
General Musa made this appeal on Friday during the public presentation of SCARS: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum, a book authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor.
He emphasized that military action alone cannot resolve the Boko Haram crisis, encouraging Nigerians to foster peace and a sense of nationhood.
“For our nation to progress, we must approach this matter with faith, honesty, and clarity to discover solutions. It is not solely a military solution. Based on my experience, the military approach accounts for just 25 to 30 percent of the solution,” he stated.
While drawing comparisons with other nations, the Defence Chief highlighted Singapore as a model of resilience, asserting that unity is essential for overcoming the insurgency.
“As long as we fail to love one another as Nigerians and do not see each other as our brother’s keepers, this situation will persist. If we desire an end to this, we must commit to living together as siblings. It is not a matter of magic; it requires deliberate effort.
“Countries have developed over time because they faced their challenges head-on and resolved to conquer them. Singapore, despite its numerous challenges, declared: It’s either we stand and perish, or we strive and progress.’ They chose to work hard, and they have prospered,” Musa concluded.
