Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has pledged to track down and prosecute those responsible for the attack and bombing of the Ipele Divisional Police Station in the Owo Local Government Area.

The governor made this commitment after leading an emergency meeting of the State Security Council in Akure to assess the incident, which took place on New Year’s Eve.

Reports suggest that approximately 30 armed assailants, on motorcycles, invaded the police facility late Wednesday night and detonated an explosive device while residents were attending church services to celebrate the New Year.

Governor Aiyedatiwa stated that security agencies throughout the state have been placed on high alert to prevent any further security breaches.

He explained that the attackers were forced to withdraw due to the swift and coordinated response from security operatives.

“Security agencies responded immediately, causing the assailants to flee. The prompt action taken ensured that the situation was quickly brought under control and the impact of the attack was significantly minimized,” the governor remarked.

He noted that although the attackers managed to breach the police station and set off an explosive, no lives were lost thanks to the rapid intervention of security forces.

“They were able to infiltrate the facility, but the speed with which security agencies responded helped to contain the situation. Fortunately, no casualties were reported,” he added.

Governor Aiyedatiwa confirmed that the damage was confined to the police station building, emphasizing that all officers on duty were unharmed and have since resumed their patrols to ensure security in the area.

He mentioned that the emergency security meeting concentrated on evaluating the incident, assessing the effectiveness of the response, and implementing measures to prevent a recurrence.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 17, Ajani Musibau, visited the scene and strongly condemned the attack, labeling it as a serious and unacceptable threat to public peace and security.
