Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that he has forgiven former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose for his past transgressions, marking the end of a prolonged political feud between the two Nigerian leaders.
Obasanjo made this announcement during his address at Fayose's 65th birthday celebration, which took place in Lagos on Saturday and was well-attended.
In a video that has since gone viral, the former president expressed that the event was a moment for celebration, reflection, and learning from past mistakes.
“You may not be my most outstanding political offspring, but your accomplishments cannot be overlooked. Even in inviting me here, you were unable to approach me directly. Instead, you sent Osita (Chidoka) to gauge my interest. When Osita, who is also part of my political family, came, I said, ‘Well, if he (Fayose) has sent you and you have conveyed the message, then inform him that you have done so.’
“You have sought forgiveness, and as far as I’m concerned, you are forgiven. However, it is essential that the right lessons are learned,” Obasanjo remarked.
It is worth noting that the two have been at odds since 2006, leading to public disputes.
