The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), through the NRS Academy, has inaugurated a Curriculum Review Committee to strengthen taxation education in Nigerian educational institutions and support the development of a more robust and modern tax administration system.
The committee was inaugurated on February 24, 2026, at the NRS Academy, Durumi under the Leadership of the Director NRS Academy (NRSA) Mr Adeolu Akinyemi who reiterated the aim to collaborate and with CITN to develop a well-structured curriculum for the NRSA, and to ensure that academic training in taxation reflects the needs of modern tax administration.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that academic training in taxation aligns with the evolving needs of modern tax administration and reflects current developments in tax policy and practice.
The committee has been mandated to review existing taxation curricula in Nigerian institutions and recommend improvements that incorporate contemporary tax policies, recent legislative developments, and emerging areas such as digital taxation and global tax practices.
This effort also seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical tax administration by aligning theoretical knowledge with the operational realities of tax administration. By doing so, graduates will be better equipped with the knowledge and skills required to support Nigeria’s tax system.
The initiative is expected to strengthen tax awareness, promote voluntary compliance, and contribute to the development of skilled tax professionals who will support national revenue growth and broader economic development.
The committee is chaired by Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman of the on Research and Statistics. Members of the committee include representatives from the Service and the comprising academic experts in taxation and fiscal policy as well as professionals with experience in tax administration, policy development, and tax education.
The committee will work closely with relevant education regulatory bodies and professional institutions to ensure that the revised curriculum meets national academic standards while addressing the practical requirements of tax administration in Nigeria.
The Nigeria Revenue Service noted that the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to strengthening tax knowledge, promoting professional development, and encouraging responsible tax compliance across the country.
The review exercise is expected to be completed within 60 days, after which further updates will be provided on the progress and implementation of the revised curriculum.
