The Nigeria Revenue Service has announced a revenue target of N40.7 trillion for 2026.

This comes as the service said it collected N28.29 trillion in 2025.

NRS disclosed this at a management retreat in Abuja on Tuesday.

The target indicates a sharp increase of about 44 percent from the N28.29 trillion collected in 2025.

According to the country’s revenue body, its plan is to optimize non-oil collections, expand compliance, automate, and tighten enforcement to achieve its targeted revenue for 2026.

Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr Zacch Adedeji, and Chairman of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee, Joseph Tegbe, harped on the significance of the country’s new tax laws and their implementation.

The Executive Director of Government and Large Taxpayers at the NRS, Amina Ado, said the service’s strong 2025 performance provided a solid base for achieving the 2026 target.

“We compare that with what we did in 2024, which was N21.7tn; at the end of last year we were able to deliver N28.23tn.”

“That is about 30 percent more than what we collected in 2024, and we achieved 112 percent of our target.”

According to data represented at the retreat, NRS revenue rose steadily from N6.4 trillion in 2021 to N10.18 trillion in 2022, N12.34 trillion in 2023, N21.7 trillion in 2024, and N28.29 trillion in 2025, with the N40.71 trillion target for 2026.
