The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) said it has approved Start Innovation Hub (SIH) as a skill training centre in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
This will make the centre one of the 16 privately owned NBTE training centers in Akwa Ibom.
Executive Secretary, NBTE, Prof. Idris Muhammad Bugaje, disclosed this in the approval letter signed by the Director, Vocational, Technical and Skills Development, Engr. S. M. Yusuf, and addressed to the Chief Executive, Start Innovation Hub, on Tuesday in Uyo.
He said that a sectoral awarding body will be responsible for the assessment of the trainees, while NABTEB will issue certificates.
The letter said the tech company was given the approval after a verification visit to the company headquarters and academy in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, by NBTE to ascertain its qualification to train students.
“I am directed to inform you that the Executive Secretary has approved the Centre to operate as a Skill Training Center (STC) for the following trades: The following programmes have been approved: 1. Computer Hardware Repair & Maintenance 2. Social Media8 Communications.
“Based on the new arrangement, the Sectoral Awarding Body will be responsible for the assessment of the trainees while the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) will issue certificates based on the recommendation of the Sectoral Awarding Body.
“Both the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) and Sectoral Awarding Body will be communicated accordingly. Please accept my congratulations on behalf of the Executive Secretary,”; parts of the letter read.
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is responsible for regulating and coordinating technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions.
