Munch’s Hus serves roast moose

The moose is the hallmark of Norway and it is extremely tasty. That is why elk roast is a specialty on the menu of Kenneth Gjerrud, chef of Germany’s only Norwegian restaurant.

A bit of Norway

With Munch’s Hus, Kenneth Gjerrud brought a piece of his old home to Berlin in 2001. His restaurant is still the only Norwegian restaurant in Germany to this day. The quality of the food speaks for itself – the restaurant is fully booked every day.

Munch’s Hus

The restaurant is named after the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944), who found his second home in Berlin in the 1990s. The restaurant shows copies of his pictures in a permanent exhibition.

A childhood dream of own restaurant

“After ten years in the gastronomy in Berlin, I wanted to start my own business. I started doing research and surprisingly found out that there is no Norwegian restaurant in Germany. So I thought, well, I’m Norwegian, then I’ll make a Norwegian restaurant! ” – Kenneth Gjerrud

“The moose is of course very exotic, but it is not so strict in the wild taste, very mild. The meat is lean, a bit nutty in taste, comparable to beef.” – Kenneth Gjerrud

Traditional Norwegian dish

Elk meat is mainly used in fine Norwegian cuisine and is eaten on special occasions. At Munch’s Hus, the roast moose is one of the guests’ favorite dishes, especially in winter. The traditional dish is served with mashed potatoes, chestnuts, and currant jelly.
