Around the world, more than 100,000 people are infected with the novel coronavirus, as calculated by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. The number of diagnosed cases in Germany is 534.

The number of people infected with the coronavirus has exceeded 100,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University in the United States. The university’s special website, which records the spread worldwide, recently recorded 100,330 cases in which people have COVID-19. According to this, 55,694 people have already been cured, 3408 suffered from their infection.

In Germany, the number of diagnosed cases on Friday was 534, 185 more than the previous day. All federal states except Saxony-Anhalt are affected. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin, the spread of the coronavirus in Germany has not yet peaked.

Continuous increase in Germany

When this will be the case is still unclear. In Germany, there is a continuous increase, according to the RKI. This is likely to continue in the next few days and weeks. The pathogen has now been detected in 15 federal states. Most registered cases since the beginning of the year are in North Rhine-Westphalia, followed by Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.

South Tyrol now also a risk area

Meanwhile, South Tyrol has been classified as a risk area by the RKI. The reason is the number of infections and the dynamics of the spread of the coronavirus in the northern Italian region. In Germany, there are now 36 corona cases in connection with South Tyrol, according to the RKI. In Italy, the regions of Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy and the city of Vo in the province of Padua in the Veneto region are already considered risk areas. The Federal Foreign Office does not recommend travel there that is not required.

Lufthansa cancels half of the flights

Given the effects of the coronavirus epidemic, the Lufthansa Group plans to introduce short-time work. The flight plan is also to be thinned out significantly. In the past few days, bookings have dropped dramatically, and now all traffic areas are affected, the airline said. Depending on the further development of demand, capacity should be reduced by up to 50 percent in the next few weeks. There should be special rebooking options for customers.
