The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has described as flawed the process of leadership recruitment in the country.

According to Keyamo, when money, ethnicity as well as patronage override merit, the entire system of a country will undoubtedly suffer.

While disclosing during a lecture he delivered during a book launch and celebration of the 70th birthday anniversary of Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, the Aviation Minister, stressed that the quality of any society’s leadership is determined by the integrity and openness of its leadership recruitment process.

Keyamo emphasised that when leadership positions are treated as rewards for loyalty rather than responsibility, the consequences are felt in every home through insecurity, poverty, decaying infrastructure, and lost opportunities

“Before we can talk about solutions, we must first understand the problem. And the truth is, the challenges we face in selecting leaders are neither new nor hidden. They are challenges we all recognise.

Political parties are the vehicles that produce candidates through primaries, congresses, or consensus arrangements.

“Ordinarily, these process should be democratic, but in practice money, godfatherism, zoning, ethnic considerations often determines the outcomes.
