The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has advocated that Nigeria should be returned to its ethnic lines prior to the country’s amalgamation in 1914.
This is also as it called on the United States to intervene in Nigeria’s security and political challenges, urging protection for affected communities and a restructuring of the country along ethnic lines.
The group made the appeal in a statement signed by its leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu, on Tuesday.
In the statement, MASSOB said it was responding to what it described as ongoing violence against communities in Nigeria and expressed appreciation to Donald Trump and members of the U.S. Congress for drawing international attention to the situation.
The statement said, “MASSOB is deeply grateful for the efforts of President Trump’s administration and the US Congressmen who have raised their forces against the heinous acts of violence and persecution faced by our people in Nigeria”, adding that global recognition of the situation was a step toward justice for victims.
The organisation also urged continued international pressure on Nigerian authorities to address the crisis and ensure accountability. It called for peaceful political solutions, including self determination, and advocated what it described as lawful mechanisms to resolve the country’s long standing challenges.
MASSOB further appealed for a fundamental change to Nigeria’s political structure, arguing that the country should be returned to its pre-colonial ethnic nationalities.
According to the statement, the group “urged the United States of America to return Nigeria to her indigenous ethnic nationalities before the British Colonist amalgamated and yoked groups of ethnic strangers in this contraption called Nigeria”.
The statement reflects continuing debates over national unity, security, and governance in Nigeria, while highlighting growing calls for separation by some groups.
