With the match played in a hostile atmosphere, found himself in hot water.
The frustrated Frenchman booted a ball away in anger, and also got away with elbowing an opposition player during the match
Upon the final whistle, Cantona was shown a red card after remonstrating with the referee.
All hell subsequently broke loose in the tunnel at Ali Sami Yen Stadium, with recounting during an appearance on Betfair’s Stick to Cricket show: “There was a great time in where Eric decides that he wasn’t happy about getting sent off.
“He punched a copper. Standing in the tunnel entrance as you go down the steps in Galatasaray.”
Bruce went on to add: “There’s this scrap down in these tunnels where they’re coming from everywhere and we’re getting battered from pillar to post.
“And I see Fergie at the top of the stairs. You see this? What’s going on? And all of a sudden he…”
At this point Bruce waved both arms motioning the swinging of punches, prompting laughter from regular pundits , Alastair Cook and David “Bumble” Lloyd.

Bruce continued of Ferguson: “(He was)…weighing into everybody that he could come across.
“We get in the dressing room and he comes… all his hair is (untidy). ‘None of my lads have been fighting have we?’
“And we all went, ‘no, not at all’. He went in the bathroom and got his hair, put his tie straight and all the rest of it, goes on the TV. ‘Sir Alex I believe there’s something that’s happened in the tunnel’.
“(Ferguson replies) ‘I never seen a thing’. And that’s the way he was.”

Reflecting on the same incident in his autobiography, then-United captain Bryan Robson wrote: “As the referee blew the final whistle I could see in Eric’s eyes that he had gone.
“He took Cantona, I was just about to thank the policeman when he punched Eric. Eric stumbled down a couple of steps, so I turned to throw a punch at the copper.
“As I did, a shield smashed into the back of me. I fell down a few steps, bashing my elbow against the wall.
“Eric wanted to go back up and fight, but by then the other lads were coming down the steps and calmed us down.”
added in his own book: “In the dressing room, Eric went crazy. While the rest of us just wanted to get out of there, Eric was determined to sort out the rogue cop who had been wielding his truncheon.
“Eric was a big, strong lad. He was serious. He insisted he was going to kill that f***er.” Ferguson had also made his way back to the dressing room after the fracas and his response was typical of his expert management.”
