The victim, named only as Isma, was rushed to a Mumbai hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning after a attack.

He had been struck with a “koita” – a terrifying hooked blade usually used for hacking open coconuts or clearing thick scrub.

Medics were stunned to find the patient conscious and alert, showing no signs of brain fade despite the gruesome head wound.

Chilling scans later revealed the heavy metal blade had plunged nearly 1.5 inches deep into his brain.

A team of neurosurgeons led by Dr Batuk Diora raced against the clock to perform an emergency operation.

The surgeons pulled off a miracle to successfully remove the weapon while the patient was safely knocked out.

In a statement, local bosses confirmed the “operation was a success” and the brave patient is now on the road to recovery.

He is currently being monitored in a trauma ICU where his condition is said to be stable and improving by the day.

The “koita” is a notorious weapon in India, often measuring a whopping three to six feet in length.

The blades are often used in South Indian action films during dramatic fight scenes.

But in the real world, “koita gangs” have a much darker reputation for terrorising the streets of Maharashtra state.

are still hunting those responsible for the stomach-churning assault that left the victim inches from death.
