LUKE LITTLER advanced to the last 16 of the PDC World Darts Championship with an impressive victory over the slow-paced Mensur Suljovic.

Much of the pre-match discussion revolved around how The Nuke would perform against his opponent.

With remarkable focus and concentration, he achieved five finishes over 100 points in a decisive 4-0 victory, continuing his title defense.

The match concluded in just 25 minutes, allowing fans to return to their local pubs before closing time.

When the draw was announced last month, Suljovic, 53, had texted Littler to say, ‘see you in round three,’ which turned out to be an accurate prediction.

However, Littler, 18, was not in a forgiving mood.

He won the opening set in just five-and-a-half minutes with an average of 109.98, while Suljovic did not register a single attempt at a double.

Littler took as long as 19 seconds between turns due to his Austrian opponent’s meticulous throwing style.

Joe Cullen had previously accused The Gentle of cheating during their second-round encounter.

Nevertheless, Littler dismissed those allegations, even as he had to exercise patience while on stage.

In the second set, Littler accelerated his performance, finishing with checkouts of 105 and 101 to take a 2-0 lead.

Suljovic finally managed to win two legs in the third set, which drew ironic applause from the audience.

However, this moment of celebration was short-lived, as Littler secured the third set with a 124 checkout and clinched the fourth set on double three, maintaining his unbeaten run.

The world No.1 will now face either Australian Damon Heta or England’s former world champion Rob Cross in the fourth round.

This match marked Littler’s personal best average on that stage across 16 games in three world tournaments.

He remarked: “I’m very pleased with the performance. My finishing was excellent.

“A checkout rate of 71% – I don’t believe I’ve achieved that before in my PDC career.

“I felt incredibly settled. I found my rhythm and matched his pace. I was slower than usual.

“This is the best I have felt, even better than during last year’s tournament and the one before. The averages, finishing, and ton-plus checkouts reflect that.

“Everyone aims for a 4-0 victory. I was determined to win the fourth set to secure the match.

“We always pack enough clothes for the final. We prepare for six to seven days’ worth.

“Being here the first year was a privilege. Last year felt different; only the first game truly mattered. This year, as the reigning champion and world No.1, the pressure was on.

“However, this time, I felt no pressure and no nerves.”
