Love Island winner hits out as he returns to normal job after reality TV fame

LOVE Island winner Nathan Massey has hit out at the government after a visit to his accountant – and revealed he’s gone back to a more “normal” job.

The 33-year-old star shot to fame on series two of Love Island, winning the show alongside his now-wife, Cara De La Hoyde.

The couple are now proud parents to Freddie, 7, and Delilah, 5

Since the show the pair have got married and had two kids together – seven-year-old Freddie and five-year-old Delilah – and continue to work as influencers on social media.

But away from that, Nathan has revealed that he has now returned to his previous job as a carpenter when work is slow – and is being taxed through the nose for his efforts.

In a video posted online, he shared his frustrations, captioning the clip: “Rant alert 🚨 …. We are all really getting our pants pulled down 😮‍💨😮‍💨 and all I can do is laugh … worrying times 🤦🏻‍♂️”

Sitting on his sofa, Nathan praised the accountants after visiting and said: “It’s just hit me how much tax that we are paying. Like, don’t get me wrong, we do okay, we’re not multi millionaires by any stretch of the imagination, I wish I was but we’re not, we do OK.

“I’m back on the tools, I work on the tools when I can, when we’re not doing our bits on social media etcetera, and it’s just hit me how much we are getting taxed, and the VAT and everything we’ve got to pay is worrying.”

“Genuinely, how is anyone in this day and age supposed to get ahead of the game?” he questioned.

“It’s like, catch up, catch up, catch up. You know, it’s really a dark timing in in our history. I think it’s wowed me, I’m not gonna lie.”

Others quickly praised his honesty, sharing their own frustrations and struggles in the process.

“Me and my husband bring in way above minimum wage and after all of our bills we are living pay cheque to pay cheque,” one wrote. “Everytime I try to save something crops up. I feel like a right failure sometimes.”

“It’s ridiculous now – it doesn’t encourage people to work!” said a second.

While a third wrote: “It’s utterly ridiculous isn’t it! I’m pretty sure after the amount of tax, corporation tax and vat we pay, people that don’t work are better off 🫣🫣 our whole system is backwards”

Nathan and Cara took home £50,000 after winning Love Island series two back in 2017 , and shortly after were snapped up for a series of lucrative deals online and on TV.

However, the show didn’t fully explode until series four, and since then there has been no shortage of islanders becoming hot commodities as they launch their careers.

To date, there have been 12 full series of Love Island UK, and two All Stars versions – with a third coming our way next year to boot.

Last November, Cara shut down her business still owing £25,000 to the tax man and in £90,000 worth of debt.

Cara and Nathan still have a business together called Delamassey – which they set-up together last July.
