The Lagos Waste Management Authority has commenced a large-scale evacuation of accumulated waste at Alaba Rago along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, as part of efforts to restore environmental order in the area.

Confirming the development in a statement issued on Sunday, the agency’s Managing Director, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said specialised equipment and personnel had been mobilised to dismantle illegal refuse dumps and improve sanitation along the busy transport corridor.

He explained that the clean-up operation would also cover Okokomaiko and the median around Lagos State University, which have been identified as priority zones requiring urgent environmental intervention.

According to Gbadegesin, the exercise will progress systematically from Agric Bus Stop towards Mile 2, ensuring comprehensive waste removal across the corridor and reducing public health risks associated with indiscriminate dumping.

He noted that the initiative forms part of LAWMA’s broader sanitation strategy, which includes continuous monitoring, stakeholder collaboration, public awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement of waste management regulations.

The LAWMA chief called on residents, traders and road users to adhere to approved waste disposal guidelines and actively support government efforts aimed at sustaining a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
