The Lagos State Government has issued a strong warning to content creators, influencers, skit makers, and digital media producers, cautioning against involving children in online content in ways that endanger their safety, dignity and well-being.

In a statement on Monday, the state government stressed that creativity must not override the rights of children, noting that minors are entitled to protection both online and offline under existing laws.

According to the government, the growing influence of digital platforms has increased the responsibility of content creators to act within legal and ethical boundaries.

“Creativity must never come at the expense of a child’s safety, dignity, or well-being,” the statement read.

The government referenced the Lagos State Child Rights Law, which guarantees the protection of minors from abuse, exploitation, and exposure to harmful situations, warning that violations could attract legal consequences.

“Safeguarding minors is not optional; it is a legal and moral duty,” the statement said, adding that the law is clear on the rights of children.

Lagos urged content producers to ensure that materials involving children are educational, empowering, and harmless while calling on residents to report cases of child exploitation on digital platforms.

“Child protection is everyone’s responsibility. See it. Say it. Sort it,” the statement concluded.
