The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected vandal caught tampering with road safety infrastructure on the Third Mainland Bridge.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, the police disclosed that the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, on April 6, 2026.

According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Dogara John, 18, was apprehended at about 5:30 p.m. while allegedly removing reflective road studs installed on the bridge.

The police explained that the devices are critical safety components designed to enhance visibility and guide motorists, especially at night or during adverse weather conditions.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of 20 of the reflective studs from the suspect.

The Command noted that the removal of such installations poses serious risks to road users, particularly on high-traffic routes like the Third Mainland Bridge.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for vandalism and any act capable of undermining public safety.

He stressed that the destruction or theft of public infrastructure not only endangers lives but also disrupts ongoing efforts to maintain order and safety across the state.

The police further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, especially around public facilities, to the nearest police station.
