The Lagos State Government has removed beggars and other individuals who were allegedly causing public disturbances along the Ketu-Alapere corridor as part of its ongoing environmental sanitation and urban renewal initiative.
This operation, led by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), was confirmed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement shared on his official X account on Wednesday.
“The operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (@LAGESCOfficial) initiated a clearance operation today at Ketu-Alapere, removing beggars and others causing disturbances along the median of the road,” Wahab wrote.
He mentioned that everyone apprehended during the operation would be appropriately profiled and handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.
Wahab also shared a video clip that showed LAGESC officials evacuating individuals from the bustling corridor, which serves as a significant link between the Lagos Mainland and essential transport routes to the Island.
According to the commissioner, this operation is part of the government's larger efforts to improve public order, ensure unobstructed vehicular movement, and enhance the visual appeal of public spaces throughout the state.
“Every part of Lagos must reflect the standard of a #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos,” Wahab emphasized.
