Published on May 15, 2025 at 06:04 PM

The Lagos State Government has announced the dismissal of five officers from the Central Business District, CBD, Office over acts of unprofessional conduct, reinforcing its stance on accountability within the public service.

Speaking during a ministerial press briefing on Thursday, held as part of activities marking the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Mrs Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, confirmed the disciplinary action and reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance approach to misconduct.

She also issued a stern warning to members of the public against assaulting government officials, stating that the administration will not condone any form of aggression toward its personnel.

Highlighting progress made in improving the Lagos Island and Ikeja CBDs, Olumegbon-Lawal revealed that Governor Sanwo-Olu has approved the establishment of the Apapa Central Business District Office. The new office will focus on addressing infrastructure maintenance, enhancing environmental management, and creating a more conducive environment for commerce in the bustling Apapa axis.

According to her, the state’s CBD initiative is a strategic effort to transform key commercial hubs through better traffic flow, improved sanitation, and the curbing of illegal street trading. She noted that collaborative efforts with agencies such as the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have been instrumental in ensuring safety, orderliness, and compliance across the districts.

Olumegbon-Lawal also stressed the importance of stakeholder engagement in achieving sustainable progress. She cited regular consultations with transport unions, market associations, and other community leaders as vital to the effective enforcement of CBD policies.

Part of the ongoing reforms, she noted, includes the removal of illegal structures and strict enforcement of the state’s “No Street Trading”;; policy, aimed at restoring order and improving the aesthetics of business districts.

She reassured the public of the government’s commitment to maintaining safety and order, urging all Lagosians to adhere to traffic and environmental regulations.
