Family members of the 28 individuals who were abducted by armed men in the Zak community, Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area in Plateau State on Sunday, have disclosed that the kidnappers have reached out to them, demanding a ransom of N1.5 million for each person.

The victims were taken on Sunday night while en route to a Maulud celebration in the Sabon Layi community, also located in Bashar District, when the assailants intercepted their vehicle and transported them to an undisclosed location in a forest.

A relative of one of the victims, Ibrahim Musa, who spoke to reporters on Tuesday, shared that the kidnappers had contacted the families and insisted on a payment of N1.5 million per person for their release.

“The kidnappers called me last night and stated that we must pay N1.5 million for each individual, irrespective of age or gender. However, they assured us that our loved ones are safe and nothing will happen to them,” Ibrahim mentioned.

“I pleaded with them, explaining that we are ordinary villagers and do not have that kind of money, as life is quite difficult for us here. Many of the victims are teenagers, and their parents cannot gather such an amount. I begged them to show us some compassion.

“But they remained firm, stating that without the payment, our relatives would not be released and warned us not to hold them responsible if anything were to happen to our loved ones,” he added.

DSP Alfred Alabo, spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that the police, along with other security agencies, have initiated investigations into the abduction with the aim of rescuing the victims.
