The Chairman of Funtua Local Government, Alhaji AbdulMutallib Sulaiman Goya, on Sunday, returned five rescued kidnapping victims to the Magajin Garin Maska, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, after they regained their freedom following a peace agreement with bandit groups in Katsina State.
The victims, hailing from the Maska area, were reportedly released in Sabuwa village after approximately three months in captivity.
The chairman confirmed that no ransom was paid for their release.
He noted that the peace agreement involved bandit groups from several local government areas, including Funtua, Faskari, Sabuwa, Dandume, Bakori, Danja, Kankara, Kafur, and Malumfashi.
Alhaji Goya stated that he personally ensured the victims received medical care at Sabuwa General Hospital immediately after their rescue.
“They were administered injections, intravenous fluids, and other medications, with all expenses fully covered by the Funtua Local Government,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to God for the success of the peace accord, the chairman remarked that this development indicated the bandits were honoring their commitments.
“They have shown good faith by releasing the captives unconditionally,” he stated.
Nevertheless, he voiced concern regarding the ongoing attacks in certain parts of Funtua, particularly around the Maska area, despite the peace agreement.
Goya assured that his administration is actively engaging with those involved to maintain peace and build confidence among residents.
“My top priority remains the well-being of the people of Funtua Local Government. My doors are always open to constructive ideas and partnerships that will foster lasting peace and sustainable progress in our community,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, traditional leaders, security agencies, religious leaders, and community stakeholders for their ongoing support in restoring peace throughout the state.
Upon receiving the victims, the village head of Maska, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, conveyed his appreciation to the chairman for his efforts and for covering the victims’ medical expenses.
He also urged residents to continue praying for enduring peace and stability in the area.
