Renowned Nigerian actor, Tunde Usman, also known as Okele, has suggested the idea of 'signing' foreign presidents to address the issues facing Nigeria.
The actor shared this proposal in response to the ongoing economic difficulties in Nigeria.
In a viral video posted on his Instagram page, Okele addressed the rising costs of cooking gas across the country and proposed a football-inspired approach to removing underperforming leaders as a solution to Nigeria’s challenges.
Speaking in Yoruba, he argued that this football strategy could help alleviate the frequent disappointments experienced with elected officials.
“Greetings to all Nigerians at home and abroad. May God assist us in overcoming this hardship. I recently considered the issues surrounding gas, fuel, and the rising prices in Nigeria.
“If you are a football enthusiast, you would know that every club has a coach, an assistant coach, and trainers for the goalkeepers. So, instead of campaigning for various political parties, some of which misappropriate our funds, why can't Nigeria look globally and 'sign' any ex-president who has demonstrated effective leadership in another country to help fix Nigeria?
“Many successful footballing nations recruit coaches from abroad. Perhaps we should implement a similar approach for selecting our president, allowing us to unite and 'sign' our president just as we would a coach, and dismiss any underperforming president in favor of a new one.”
