According to BILD , German FA president Bernd Neuendorf and Bundesliga chief Hans-Joachim Watzke are flying to New York this weekend to finalise the deal with Klopp.

The report claims negotiations are now at an advanced stage, with the contract, salary, coaching staff, sponsorship agreements and Klopp’s future role within the German FA all close to being agreed.

Klopp, 59, would reportedly retain his position with Red Bull despite taking charge of the national team.

The move comes after Germany’s disastrous World Cup campaign piled huge pressure on Julian Nagelsmann to the point that he had to step down .

Germany crashed out of the tournament after a shock penalty shootout defeat to in Boston.

Nagelsmann’s side failed to recover after falling behind before eventually losing on penalties in a major upset.

Ironically, Klopp was in the stadium working as a pundit for Magenta TV as Germany’s World Cup dream came to an end.

The former Reds boss had already fuelled speculation before the tournament by suggesting Nagelsmann was “still” picking the Germany team, comments he later apologised for on live television.

Now bookmakers have installed Klopp as the favourite to take the Germany job in the coming days.

Nagelsmann, who was boss from September 2023 had initially insisted after the defeat that he wanted to retain his job.

He said: “I would like to continue in the job.

“But I accept that if you are eliminated by Paraguay, you are not a first-class football team anymore.

“We just didn’t do enough to win.

“Saying that, in my opinion to call it a foul on the goalkeeper before Jonathan Tah scored was a joke.”

He added: “We didn’t defend well enough and when we had overloads on the wings we lost control of the ball too much.

“I don’t want to fault the boys because they gave it their all but we need to be faster and while we created enough chances, we were not present enough in the box.”

Germany’s latest tournament disappointment sparked a furious reaction from supporters.

One fan wrote: “NAGELSMANN OUT.”

Another posted: “Worst generation of German team! Sack Nagelsmann immediately.”

A third added: “Julian Nagelsmann should be getting the sack letter as soon as possible.”

While another fumed: “Sack Nagelsmann and so many players shouldn’t wear the Germany kit anymore. We have to start from scratch once again.”

Germany’s exit also marked the first time they have ever lost a penalty shootout at a World Cup.
