A SOUTH African TV presenter and rapper has been arrested after allegedly kidnapping a taxi driver and opening fire in his direction.

Jub Jub, whose real name is Molemo Maarohanye, reportedly confronted the driver and accused him of forming a relationship with his girlfriend.

Molemo accosted in the man after he had dropped off a passenger in Edenvale, 25km from Johannesburg, at around 7.30am on Sunday.

During the kidnapping Molemo forced the unarmed man into his own car and would not let him leave, police said.

The media personality also fired his gun towards the man while he was in the car, it is alleged.

The victim managed to escape from his attacker unharmed and rushed to the nearest police station, police said.

Molemo, 45, used to be one of South Africa’s most popular musicians.

He will appear in Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for an initial hearing.

Molemo is no stranger to encounters with the law.

In 2012 he was convicted of murder and attempted murder after smashing his car into a group of schoolchildren, killing four and injuring two.

He was also convicted of racing on a public road and driving under the influence of drugs over the 2010 tragedy.

But South Africa’s high court overturned the verdicts two years later.

The u-turn meant he was convicted of manslaughter instead.

And in 2023 the musician was arrested on charges of rape, attempted murder and assault.

The arrest came following allegations made by an ex-girlfriend.

But the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew the charges in 2024.

The NPA said there were “no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution”.

Molemo has been a TV Host of popular shows such as You Promised to Marry Me and Uthando Noxolo which air on Mojalove DSTV Channel 157.

He currently presents Uyajola 9/9, a reality TV show which attempts to track down and catch out cheating partners.
