The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, has urged for enhanced global collaboration and intentional efforts to promote and safeguard girls' education, safety, and security.

The Speaker made this appeal following a children's parliamentary session conducted by female students in honor of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.

He emphasized that the education and empowerment of girls are essential for achieving sustainable development, expressing concern that millions of girls worldwide continue to encounter obstacles such as insecurity, conflict, displacement, and poverty, which disrupt their education and jeopardize their futures.

The Speaker reiterated the legislature’s dedication to endorsing policies and laws that enhance access to quality education, economic opportunities, and protection for children, particularly girls.

“We have supported the allocation of 32 percent of the 2024 budget and 26 percent of the 2025 budget to education. These investments are already yielding positive results by improving learning outcomes, decreasing the number of out-of-school children, and broadening access to education irrespective of social or geographical background,” he remarked.

Dangyatin praised the girls' performance during the mock parliamentary session, expressing hope that one day, the Jigawa House of Assembly could be led by a female Speaker.

During the session, the child parliamentarians urged the state government to create digital learning centers in all local government areas to improve access to technology and modern education.

They also expressed appreciation to Governor Malam Umar Namadi for maintaining the policy of free education for girls from primary through university level, describing it as a vital resource for thousands of families.
