JAKE PAUL has been cautioned that he is set to face one of the most formidable punchers in boxing, Anthony Joshua – but this could actually benefit him.

The Miami mega-fight – set to be streamed on Netflix – goes to great lengths to address Paul’s most pointed criticisms.

Joshua is larger and far more seasoned than anyone Paul has faced, and at 36, he is younger than most of his 13 opponents.

Therefore, former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney – a close associate of Paul in the boxing community – insists that the American deserves recognition.

Haney, 26, told SunSport: “You have to give him credit because people were saying, ‘Oh, he was fighting this person and that person.’

“Now he’s stepping up to fight AJ, who is arguably one of the hardest hitters in boxing.

“He truly is one of the most powerful punchers and a legitimate champion.

“He has proven himself through both the amateur and professional ranks, so you have to respect Jake for this move.

“Regardless of the outcome, he deserves acknowledgment.”

Haney has even suggested in the past that Paul, 28, could become a WORLD CHAMPION one day, provided he receives the right and careful guidance.

Even a crushing knockout against Joshua would not derail his ambitious quest to reach the pinnacle of boxing.

Haney remarked: “This demonstrates that he is eager to achieve greatness in boxing, and that’s what it’s about—taking risks that build character.

“As I mentioned, whatever happens will contribute to his growth, whether he wins or loses. I’m just looking forward to this fight.”

Haney understands the importance of taking risks himself.

He transitioned from the amateur ranks to professional boxing at just 17 in Mexico and captured his first world title at 21, becoming undisputed two years later.

Now he moves up to welterweight on Saturday – live on DAZN PPV – to compete for

He stated: “This is my 34th fight, so it’s just another bout for me. Brian Norman is a young, ambitious fighter, and I’m the challenger.

“I’m entering with a challenger mentality, prepared to seize what I desire, and that’s exactly what I intend to do.

“There’s nothing but respect; it’s purely business for me. I don’t let my personal feelings influence my performance in the ring.

“Ultimately, he’s the champion, and I want the title—that’s all there is to it.”
